Frequently asked questions
Which state pays dentists the most?
Dentist pay varies widely by state. This tool compares any two states directly using verified BLS OEWS state figures (May 2025) where published; for the highest and lowest overall, see the dental salary by state hub.
Are these figures verified or estimated?
Each state figure is labeled. Where BLS publishes a state wage for the role, the figure is verified BLS; where it doesn't, we show a clearly-labeled modeled estimate derived from the national median and a documented wage index. The tool never blends the two.
Do these comparisons account for cost of living?
No. These are wage comparisons, not cost-of-living-adjusted. A higher salary in a high-cost state may not go as far. The wage index reflects relative labor cost, not consumer prices.
